Connie in Chains

Testimony time again at the Mission and when Connie leaps forward, stumbling over an amplifier cable, the usual cheers and zoo noises greet him. Connie has been warned about sticking to the topic, or at the very least referencing Jesus and rounding things off with the savior before trying to find his seat again with the help of friends. Behind Connie on the giant projector screen used for worship images is a field of brilliant yellow sunflowers with dark radial centers. Connie begins: “I'm Connie, and as you all know I love animals and nature and think our Lord did too. Although I'm not sure what he had against the pigs by putting the Legion into them and sending them off the cliff, but I'm sure he had a good reason for doing what he did.” “Connie . . .” begin a few disapproving rumbles. “Well, okay . . .” Connie turns and sweeps one arm across the image of the sunflower field. “Consider the lilies of the field, who toil not but use photo . . . photo . . .light absorbing . . .They are doing the best they can just by sitting there, which is all we can ever do. “I always try my best. In Jesus's name goodnight.” Then he's off the stage to cheers.
